My name is Kyle Hinton, aka Simulations, and I'm a multi-disciplined artist dedicated to creating at the crossroads of art and technology, using code, sound design, visuals, glitch art, performance, puppetry, and writing and more.
I'm most excited about the creation of engaging interactive experiences, both digitally and in real life, to spark laughs or insights, through analog puppet shows or entirely digital video games.
The way that I create has been heavily influenced by philosophy and theatre and has gradually evolved over time to become more digital and online. Because of the multi-disciplined nature of theatre, I've always been comfortable creating in a variety of mediums to contribute to the story telling process.
Since 2011, I've been creating and presenting miniature puppet shows in suitcases, computer cases, aquariums, and other empty spaces or frames. This project, called "The Suitcase Theatre Arcade," began while I was working for the Calgary Animated Objects Society. I love sharing these stories and creating fun, interactive experiences, inviting small audiences to focus on miniature worlds.
I've been a full-stack developer since 2016, and after working in more corporate roles, I discovered that I would rather bring my skills to the people around me. I love bringing people's art and stories to life through game and app development, as well as supporting the arts through the creation of various tools.
Under "The Simulacrum," I've been researching and developing resources and tools to better understand how decentralized networks can protect artists' work from creatively extractive social media platforms. I'm also exploring better ways to share art and data digitally. Here, I create glitch art photography and explore how different art mediums can be presented in this digital space.
